Marie Frances Loushin passed away on April 6, 2024, just one day after laying her beloved husband, Louie to rest. Louie and Marie were a perfect example of true love with a marriage that lasted over 72 years. One could not be without the other in life, nor in death. We are heartbroken to lose them both but know that they are truly blessed with the ability to leave this world just as they lived it, together.
Marie Frances Kochevar was born in Butte to Joseph and Frances Kochevar on August 17, 1932. She was the first of three children that included her brother, Ed, and sister, Carol. Her family lived in the Parrot Flat on the East Side of Butte. Marie’s father worked as a miner and eventually bought the Parrot Bar on the corner of Watson and Kemper Streets. The bar was renamed Koochy’s Bar and operated for over 40 years. Marie attended Jefferson Grade School, Sacred Heart, and Butte High School. One of the highlights of Marie’s time at Butte High was when she attended and performed with the Butte High Band at the Rose Festival in Portland, Oregon as a senior in high school.
Louie and Marie were married at the Sacred Heart Church in Butte on August 19, 1951. They had two children, Greg and Lynn. They lived on the East Side raising their family until 1969, when the Anaconda Company bought their home. They then moved their family down to the flats where they built a new home that became the center of many years of family dinners, all-night parties with friends, barbeques, Christmas Eve parties, and a daily stop for her grandchildren. Louie and Marie loved spending time with their friends and family. They loved to go camping and were able to travel to many different places together. Marie was very social and loved her time spent with her close friends doing ceramics, bowling, golfing, and going out with her Red Hat Ladies. Marie was a devoted wife and mother that worked hard her entire life. She worked as a checker for the Main Public Market in Uptown Butte for many years. After her son Greg opened the Medicine Shoppe Pharmacy, Marie became the office manager. Even though Greg owned the pharmacy, Marie was the boss and everyone knew it. After the Medicine Shoppe closed, Greg went to work for Kmart and Marie followed him. She worked as a pharmacy technician there until her retirement.
Marie was preceded in death by her husband, Louie; her parents, Joseph and Frances; mother and father-in-law, Frank and Helen Loushin; and her brother, Ed Kochevar.
Marie is survived by her children, Greg (Kris) Loushin and Lynn (Len) Janson; grandchildren, Bryan (Jess) Loushin, Brodie Loushin, Molly (Bryan) McNabb, Kaci Janson, and Cory (Sara) Janson; great-grandchildren, Emma, Nora, Tanner, Lucy, Hanna, Kelton, Kyler, and Maysen. Also survived by sister, Carol (Joe) Kump and sister-in-law, Beverly Kochevar; and numerous special nieces, nephews, and friends.
Marie’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation for Dr. Pullman, Erin Williams-Leber, and Dr. Hueftle. They would also like to thank Debbie, Kathy, and Tina from Stillwater Hospice for providing such loving care to Marie and Louie.
Marie will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in Butte, next to her husband, Louie, whom she laid to rest on Friday, April 5, 2024.
