Jeanette Delores “Jean” Beausoleil age 89, of Anaconda, passed away on Friday, October 18, 2019, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Mandan, North Dakota on October 17, 1930 to Gladys and Nick Zounick.
Jean was a long-time bar owner and businesswoman for over 50 years. She had been featured in the Anaconda Leader for being a long-time business owner and having the “cleanest bar in town, with the coldest beer”. She had never switched over to the computer world, for she would say “pen, pencil, and paper, any mistakes made can then be erased. She did her own books until the time she was hospitalized.
She lived at Lime Quary Inn with her father, Nick, until he died. Jean then married John Thomas “Jack” Hempstead, and his parents, Austin and Hattie Hempstead, built The Ranch Bar. Together they had 3 children: Nicholas James “Jim” Hempstead, Jeffrey Edward Hempstead, and Jaxine Marie Hempstead. After Jack died in 1971, Jean married Leo “Fuzzy” Beausoleil and they had one child, Alice Ann “Binky” Beausoleil McDonald. The two then ran the bar together until Leo died in 2008.
Jean played softball until she was 76 years old. She loved to play cribbage with a very dear friend Debbie Colbert, who has and still works at he Ranch Bar for over 17 years and Jean loved her. Deb took Jean to the cribbage functions all over, where Jean won many tournaments. She played cribbage with many patrons of her bar as well. She was on the first issue of the first Lifetime Magazine, she was the little girl sitting on the bar at Fort Peck Dam.
Jean had many great friends, both close and far away. Her best friend was Carol Brebrick and they had a lot of good times together, talking for long periods of time on the phone. Debbie Colbert, a very dear employee who Jean adored, Joyce Venturelli, who worked for Jean for 45 + years and still is employed at the bar. Jean and Joyce had a special friendship, and special friend Mike McDonald. Carolyn Brock, Jeans long-lost daughter she never had, but Carolyn always called her mom.
Jean is survived by her daughters: Jaxine Allen and Alice Ann McDonald, grandchildren: Blake (Melissa), Ryan (Mindy), and Eric Hempstead, Bobbie Jean Allen and Nicole McDonald, great-grandchildren: Justine, Cameron, and Trevin Hempstead, C.J., Trevor, and Tiana, great-great-grandchildren: Lorelai. Jean also loved daughter-in-law, Lois Anderson Hempstead and Patty Hempstead.
Jean was preceded in death by her mother and father, Jack Hempstead, Leo Beausoleil, Jim Hempstead, Jeff Hempstead, and grandson, Justin Hempstead.
Celebration of Life will be held on Monday, October 28th, at Holy Family Catholic Church, 217 W Pennsylvania Ave, Anaconda, at 10:30 a.m., with luncheon following service. Following the luncheon, everyone is invited to The Ranch Bar, 13177 Hwy 1 West, Anaconda, following the service.
Donations can be made in memory of Jean to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
