Steven (Steve) Wayne Boyer died peacefully in his Butte, Montana home Thursday morning at about 1:15 A.M., December 29, 2022. He was attended by his wife, Gretchen Christina Boyer, and his stepdaughter, Christina Coleman-Lee.
Steve was 76 years old and was born at 1:30 P.M., January 15,1946 to Evangeline Pearl (Davis) and Warren Willman Boyer in Fillmore, California. He was their only child.
Originally from Texas, Warren moved back to Texas with Steve when he was about two years old. They eventually settled in Seminole, Texas where Steve attended school through high school.
On June 30, 1965, he joined the Navy in Hobbs, New Mexico. During his 21-year Naval career, Steve earned numerous medals, including the Vietnam Service with four bronze stars and the Republic of Vietnam Campaign medal, several commendations and commendation ribbons. He really felt at home in the Navy. Service was one of Steve’s strongest characteristics.
After retiring from the Navy, Steven studied at the College of Architecture & Arts, University of Montana in Bozeman, MT. He graduated with his Architecture Degree in Spring 1993 and worked as an architectural draftsman in several states before settling in Butte, Montana, where he was self-employed. Steve retired in 2019.
Some of his interests included, but were not limited to, architecture and architectural history, reading mostly military history and science fiction, studying philosophy and the history of Christianity, and music…especially Irish, jazz and R&B, and religious music. He enjoyed playing the guitar.
Steve was preceded in death by his father Warren Boyer, his stepmother Lois Boyer, his mother Evangeline Taylor, and his grandson Logan Boyer.
Steve is survived by his wife Gretchen Christina Boyer; his twin brothers Dean and his wife Candy (Seminole, TX), and Gene and his wife Mary (Denver, TX); his half-brother Earnie Taylor (Westminster, CA); daughter Kareniesa Kohn and her husband Cy (Butte, MT); Terence Boyer and his wife Chara (Alaska); his triplets Tanisha, Daniel and Natasha Boyer; and stepdaughters Christina Coleman-Lee and Christian Foley (both of Butte, MT). Steve is also survived by 15 grandchildren and his first great-grandchild. He’s also survived by his three step-great-grandchildren and faithful companion Max Rose, the family cat.
Steve was a private man; therefore, no memorial service is planned. We all remember him in our hearts and minds. Many thanks for all that helped make his passing easier, especially those members of the Encompass Hospice Agency, medical personnel at St. James Community Hospital, and the team at the Veterans Administration.
