Stephen Cortez, age 71, passed away on July 4, 2020, at Continental Care in Butte, Montana, of natural causes. He was born to Ricardo P. Cortez and Esther J. (Knight) Cortez on November 16, 1948, in Butte, Montana. He worked as a maintenance man at Butte Shelter Workshop. He enjoyed the Special Olympics, bowling, basketball, and puzzles.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Ricardo and Esther Cortez; his sister, Juanita Cortez; his brother, Glen Cortez; his sister-in-law, Elsie Cortez; and his sister, Sandy Murry.
He is survived by his brothers James, David, Roy, Rick, and Don Cortez, and sister, Gloria Fox, and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A private family service will be held at St. Mark Lutheran Church on July 11, 2020. A potluck will follow at Clark Park around 12 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to St. Mark Lutheran Church at 223 S. Montana St., Butte, MT, 59701.

MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYS TO THE CORTEZ FAMILY. STEVIE ALWAYS CAME TO THE BELMONT WITH MOUNTAIN VIEW HE WOULD ALWAYS SAY THIS WASHIS MOM AND HE WOULD GIVE HER A HUG. WE ARE THE ONES WHO ARE BLESSED TO KNOW STEVIE.
