On Sunday December 29, 2019 Rosemary Fitzpatrick passed away at home after a lengthy illness. Rose was born on February 19, 1956 in Butte, Montana, the eighth child and fourth daughter born to John E. and Mary Lou (Kane) Fitzpatrick. She attended Immaculate Conception Grade School and graduated from Butte High School 1974.
Following high school Rose moved to Helena, Montana for a time and later to Fairford, England. In 1984 she returned to Helena and began what would become a long and much loved career within the law enforcement community, becoming a Detention Officer and Supervisor with the Lewis and Clark County Sheriff’s Department. She was honored to be made a Reserve Deputy for Lewis and Clark County and in January 1999 changed jobs to become a Dispatcher for the Montana Highway Patrol in Helena. Rose missed her family in Butte and transferred to the MHP Butte Division office in 2007 as the Office Administrator, a role she held and loved until her passing. Rose’s colleagues in the law enforcement community became her dearest friends and extended family. Throughout her career she was devoted to her work and received many accolades.
Rose was a longtime volunteer at Lost Creek Raceway and enjoyed visiting with everyone who stopped by the concession stand and will be sorely missed by her Lost Creek family. Rose loved spending time with family and friends, especially during Butte festival season and always looked forward to the An Ri Ra and Montana Folk Festivals each year. She enjoyed cooking and baking for big family get-togethers and recently provided her homemade dinner rolls for the big Christmas dinner. Those blessed enough to have met or known our Rose will remember her kind, giving heart and fierce loyalty to family and friends.
Rose was preceded in death by her parents John and Mary Lou Fitzpatrick, brother John, grandparents Dr. Pat and Frances (Driscoll) Kane, and Henry and Elizabeth (McCavitt) Fitzpatrick, sister- in-law Karen Fitzpatrick and brothers-in-law Art James and Wes Haavisto; niece Christy Lynn Haavisto and great-nephew Justin Patrick Svejkovsky. She will be sadly missed and is survived by her brothers Pat (Jan) Fitzpatrick, Dick (Danette) Fitzpatrick, Bob Fitzpatrick and Bill (Barb) Fitzpatrick; sisters Kate James, Mary Lou Fitzpatrick, Fran Haavisto, Suzie (Mike) Hall, Liz Fitzpatrick, Colleen (Shawn) Fitzpatrick, and Joan (Ed) O’Neill, aunt Patsy Kane, numerous nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, the cousins – Kane, Driscoll, Blinn, and Campeau families – and very special friends Karen Warner, Mike McFarrin and Tammy Perkins.
