Robert J. “Bob” Taylor, 73, of Butte, Montana, passed away peacefully after a courageous four-year battle with cancer.
Born on March 11, 1952, in Butte, Bob was the second of four sons to Walt and Pat Taylor. He followed in his father’s footsteps, dedicating many years as an underground miner in Butte and Kellogg, Idaho. Later, he served as a mill foreman for Montana Resources until his retirement.
Bob was an avid outdoorsman who cherished fishing trips with his brothers and friends, camping adventures, and hunting during his younger years. Bob was a man of many skills and an even greater heart. He had a gift for fixing, creating, and problem-solving—always ready with a helping hand and a warm smile. Whether it was lending his expertise, offering words of wisdom, or simply being there when you needed him most, Bob embodied kindness and resourcefulness in equal measure. His willingness to help others knew no bounds, and his legacy will live on in the countless lives he touched.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Walt and Pat Taylor; his second wife, Gail Taylor; his brother, Gary Taylor; and his two nephews, Lance Taylor and Adam Taylor.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Valerie; sons Troy Taylor (Jennifer) and Darrell Taylor (Jennifer); daughter Jennifer Facincani (Brian); grandchildren Michael Taylor (Brooke), Damion Taylor (Kiera), Meriah Gay (Tanner), Blake and Cody Facincani, and Cole Taylor; eleven great-grandchildren; brothers Jim Taylor (Diana) and Jeff Taylor (Lois); and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Special friends who held a significant place in Bob’s heart include Andy Kuchtyn (Deb), Greg Bracco (Leslie), Mark Seitz (Jackie), Dwight Graham (Pam), Brian Swartz (Terasa), Scott Ruth (Pam), and Carol McDermott.
A celebration of Bob’s life will be held on June 28 from 2-5PM at the Star Lanes Event Center, 4601 Harrison Ave., Butte.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the St. James Hospital Cancer Center Team and Honeybee Hospice for their compassionate care.
“Go fishing in heaven with the angels, my love. May you rest in peace until I get there.”

Bob was my first foreman at Montana resources and a man that I had great respect for I also enjoyed his honesty and sense of humor. Bob was a great mentor to me that valued hard work and good friendship. Something Bob told me that I will never forget and likely have a laugh or two about later in life is when he worked underground and always kept a sandwich in the top of his hardhat because he didn’t always get a chance to have lunch.
Sorry for your loss.
RIP Bob
