In Memory Of

Perry Dean Schelin, Age 33, of Butte

January 28, 1988 – January 15, 2022

On January 15, 2022, Perry passed away in the comfort of his home surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 33. Perry Dean Schelin was born in Butte, MT January 28, 1988, to Toby and Stacy Schelin. Perry was raised in Ramsay, MT where he attended grade school at Ramsay Elementary. As a young child Perry found a love for music from his father. He carried this passion for music throughout his life and became an excellent song writer and musician in the community. Perry formed the bands New Routine and Miles Crossing. Perry eventually went on to produce a CD and performed many acts including his most memorable performance as the opening act for Buck Cherry.

Perry and his best friend, his sister Shanna, spent their childhood hiking and playing on the mountain behind their home. They were partners in crime and gave their parents a run for their money. He later developed a love and passion in life for motocross, and raced for 8 years, making it to the Pro-level in the Montana Circuit with his racing and good luck number #216. Perry graduated in 2006 from Butte High School while working evenings at Benny’s Power Toys and went on to work as a specialty gas operator at REC Silicon where he worked for 7 years. Perry became a father on May 16th, 2010, to Ayverie Layne Schelin (11), and later went on to meet the love of his life Samantha Jo (Salminen)Schelin and adventure partner in 2013. Together they had three more daughters Quinn Dean Schelin (7), Rowan Rae Schelin (5), and Nayvie Mae Schelin (3). They Married on August 12, 2017, at Little Basin Creek Reservoir in Butte, MT. Perry and Sami found a love for the outdoors. They spent many summers camping and hiking, and every year they celebrated their anniversary at Glacier National Park.

He was an excellent father and role model for his girls. He spent many days getting his fingernails painted, and glitter stuck on his face. His girls were his everything. He lived life to the fullest everyday despite his ongoing illness. Perry enjoyed so many things that gave his life so much fulfillment. He was always occupying his time with a hobby such as hockey, jiujitsu, paintball, snowboarding, fishing, and hunting. Perry held a special place in his heart for mountain biking. He was so excited to enter the Sorini 25 to Honor his favorite Doctor Peter Sorini. He took the time to pass each of these gifts on to his girls.

Perry is survived by his soulmate, Sami Schelin, and four children, Ayverie, Quinn, Rowan, and Nayvie; parents, Toby and Stacy Schelin, of Ramsay, MT; sister, Shanna (Schelin) Hansen, and brother-in-law, Buster, and their three children, Oakley, Khaleesi, and Ender; and his grandmothers, Shannon (Nana) Pryor, and Arline (Gramma Pork) Schelin. Additionally, Perry is survived by many, many, many, loving family members. He will be deeply missed and leaves a long-lasting sense of strength, Honor, and Courage, behind for his family.

He is preceeded in death by his two Papas – Papa Dean Pryor and Papa Tubby Schelin.

A celebration of Perry’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 22, 2022, at the Copper King Hotel and Convention Center in the Ballroom, 4655 Harrison Ave, Butte, MT. In lieu of flowers, memorials in honor of Perry are suggested to “Perry’s Girls College Fund” at Southwest Montana Federal Credit Union, 1925 Elizabeth Warren Ave., Butte, MT 59701. All proceeds will be put towards Perry’s daughters’ education.
