Patty (Pickett) Nelson, age 70 went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on August 19, 2020 after a prolonged and difficult battle with cancer and COPD. She fought bravely until the end, never losing her sense of humor or her faith. Patty was born November 23, 1949 in Philipsburg, Montana and was raised with her siblings by their parents Clyde and Helen Pickett in Anaconda, Montana. The family home built by Clyde, was a gathering place where family and friends came together to celebrate special occasions such as the fourth of July, birthdays and teatime. Teatime was very special for Patty and her father which continued up until his death in 2014.
Prior to marrying her best friend and love of her life Theodore “Bob” Nelson in 1983, Patty had four daughters Donna, Rene, Bobbie and Jamie, while Bob had two sons Robert and Danial. The newly blended family experienced many challenges that forged a strong family bond that continues to endure. The family enjoyed camping, fishing, hiking and all of the wonderful outdoor activities that Montana has to offer. In their latter years Patty and Bob enjoyed traveling and time in the mountains driving their side by side with family and friends.
Over the course of Patty’s life, she thoroughly enjoyed athletic activities with her many friends that included bowling, softball, volleyball, shuffleboard, skiing and ice skating only to name a few. Patty was also a hard worker consistently demonstrating a strong work ethic that she passed on to her children. Patty’s work history of serving others included nursing, volunteer work at the local food bank, being a paraprofessional at local schools and eventually retiring as a flagger for Local Laborers Union 1686.
Patty gave her life to the Lord in 2015 and was baptized in Echo Lake. This represented a renewal of life where Patty stated, “I left all the garbage of my previous life in the bottom of that lake.” Patty enjoyed Sunday gatherings with her church family at Gateway Fellowship where she continued to grow in her relationship with Jesus. She left this world with the knowledge that she would join her savior Jesus Christ in heaven.
Patty was preceded in death by her parents Clyde and Helen, her brother Dick, and sisters Maxine and Donna.
Patty is survived by her husband of 37 years Bob Nelson, her children Donna (Gary) Jenks, Robert (Debbie) Nelson, Rene Glenney (Patty Steinbruecker), Bobbie Glenney, Danial (Richelle) Nelson and Jamie (Peter) Herman. Grandchildren Ted Benson, Derrick Benson, Alexander Nelson, Savannah Nelson, Austin Wyant, Brittny Wyant, Ashlee Wyant, Makenzie Anne Young, Jason Webster, Daniel Shepherd, Thomas Shepherd. Great grandchildren Lyla Benson, Remington Benson, Stevi Benson, Adrianna Wyant, Zayden Spiewak, Chloe Landers, Alyna and Jacob Blaz. Siblings Pauline (Stan) Jones, Mike (Kari) Pickett, Bill (Dawn) Pickett, Allen (Dori) Pickett and numerous nieces and nephews.
Patty will forever be remembered for her great sense of humor as well as her love for family, friends, and God.
