Myrna Mae Verbanac passed away on August 27th, 2019 with her family present.
She was born August 23, 1936 in Helena MT to Helen and Perry Slavens. She spent her early childhood growing up in Ironage Gulch near Winston MT. Her family later moved to Helena MT where she attended school. Myrna (Myrnie, as she was called) graduated from Helena High in 1954. During school she worked at a childcare facility along with her mother. After graduation she was employed at Mountain Bell phone company as a switchboard operator.
She married Frank J. Verbanac on October 20, 1954, her loving husband of almost 65 years. They left East Helena and moved to Great Falls MT during Frank’s Air Force enlistment. Upon completion of her husband’s service they moved back to East Helena and resided on the same property as Frank’s parents. Myrna and Frank both enjoyed league bowling as their hobby. When they began to have a family, Myrna quit bowling to raise her seven children. Myrna raised her own children, and when her children began to raise families of their own, she assisted and enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and then great grandchildren whenever needed.
Myrna was preceded in death by her parents Helen and Perry Slavens, and her brother Jerry (Dottie) Hall.
Myrna is survived by her husband Frank, her children Cathy (Bob Carribou), Jerry, Lynn (Ed Vogl), Jim (Cynthia), Blaine, Blair, and Cheryl, as well as several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
In honor of Myrna’s wishes, the family has held private graveside services. Anyone wishing to make donations can do so by contributing to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Please offer the family a condolence or to share a memory of Myrna. Axelson Funeral and Cremation Services has been privileged to care for Myrna and her family.
