Mary Ann Sumner, age 80, of Butte, Montana, passed away on November 5, 2025, at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Billings, MT. Mary Ann was born April 17, 1945, in Havre, Montana. She married the love of her life, Vernon Sumner, and together they shared many years of life, family, and hard work.
Mary Ann worked as a bookkeeper and throughout her life she spent time working at Town Pump, owned “Lovin Touch” and “Havin a Party,” and also worked at Mac Glass, Butte Glass and Lucky Charm Casino until she retired. She was hardworking, creative, and always put her full heart into everything she did.
She loved flower gardening, crafting, caring for her pets and animals, and she enjoyed raising dogs, cats, sheep, chickens, ducks, and rabbits. She treasured time spent with her grandchildren more than anything, and she enjoyed boating and taking drives in the mountains — her favorite place to find peace and beauty.
Mary Ann is survived by her son, Jeff Hoffman; daughters, Jacque Hoffman and Paula Barrows; grandchildren, Tony Hoffman, Asher Mathias, Chance Halversen, Josh Hoffman, Tanner Mathias, Paul Barrows, Myranda Hoffman, and Krystal Barrows; and great-grandchildren Bodie Hoffman and Ryleigh Hettick; as well as her nieces Candi Dubois and Rose Dubois, and numerous great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Vernon Sumner; her parents Ed and Cleone Dubois; her brothers Ed Dubois and Barry Dubois; her sister Charlotte Dubois; her sister-in-law and lifelong best friend Betty Dubois; and her nephews, Clancy Dubois and Eddie Dubois.
Mary Ann will be deeply missed by all who loved her.
Memorials suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Celebration of life will be held December 6, 2 pm, at the McQueen Club, Butte, MT.
