He battled many illnesses in recent years and did so while maintaining his amazing sense of humor . Marty was born in Anaconda, MT to Charles F. & Gertrude (Beal) McCarthy and graduated from Anaconda Central High. He began his land-surveying career with Hammond & Everly Engineering in 1964 and obtained his Montana Professional Land Surveying License in 1973. Marty was subsequently employed as Butte-Silver Bow Examining Land Surveyor and retired from The Montana Power Company as Director of Land Records in 2000.

He was very active throughout the years with Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. He served in the Army National Guard for 8 years and coached Little League for several years. His favorite hobbies included bowling and golf which he especially enjoyed playing with his brother Charlie, sons, sons-in-law and grandchildren. Marty loved to play Bingo and could be found most afternoons watching the Game Show Network and the Golf Channel.
Due to his selfless generosity and compassion, he was always willing to help anyone regardless of the situation or time of day. Marty taught his children and so many others about respect, compassion, integrity and selflessness above all else.

Always a pleasure to visit him, humor, and yet a quiet spirit. He is with Gin now and that helps take our sorrow away.

My sincere condolences to all of Marty’s Family. Classmate from St Peter’s through Anaconda Central, Marty was always the guy to ask if you needed help. Quiet and reserved, he was always at the ready to help. Wonderful memories of Little League at the Commons being coached by his Mom & Dad. Rest in Peace, Marty, your work is done here.

I’m so very sorry about the loss of your wonderful father. He was so kind and thoughtful and smart!
I think about Ginny all the time and miss her. She and Marty were both such good examples
to everyone they came into contact with. If only the earth were filled with people just like them, it would
be heaven!
My thoughts are with you and your families at this time of sorrow

Our family all loved Mary and working with him at Highland View Golf Course. He was my dad’s favorite employee and the most dependable one. My sister and I loved growing up learning from Marty in the golf course from a young age to when we would come back to Butte and be able to visit him. He always knew how to make the day fun and bring a smile to everyone’s face who came into the golf shop. We will all greatly miss him and his hugs. Sending love to his whole family.
