Margie Barber, age 90, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and sister, passed away peacefully on September 6, 2025, in Butte, Montana. She was born on March 13, 1935, in Bloomburg, Texas, to Clifton Lamar and Grace Nichols Lamar.
Margie was a practical and hardworking woman who took pride in her accomplishments. During her years in Ruston, Louisiana, she was recognized by the American Business Women’s Association as Outstanding Business Woman of the Year while working for Stowe-Woodard Company. Later, she moved to Atlanta, Georgia, where she continued her career with Ernst & Young until her retirement, building many lasting friendships along the way.
Outside of work, Margie enjoyed knitting and sewing, proudly making all of her own clothing. After retirement, she moved to Butte, Montana, to be closer to her only son and his family. In Butte, she spent several years in the Grandma Program at Whittier Elementary, where she helped in the kindergarten classroom and worked in the office, cherishing the time she spent with the children.
Margie was preceded in death by her son, Clyde “Randy” Santifer; her siblings, Melba Selke, Emily Philips, James Lamar, John Clifton Lamar, and Bobby Lamar.
She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Tina Santifer; grandson, Joseph “JD” Santifer and his wife, Nicole Santifer; great-granddaughter, Avery Santifer; and siblings, Kenneth Lamar, Linda Mehrlich, Roy Lee Lamar, Freddy Lamar, and Danny Joe Lamar.
Margie will be remembered with love by her family and friends, who admired her honesty, strength, and devotion. Her life was a testament to resilience, faith, and unconditional love, and her legacy continues through all who knew her.
A private family gathering will be held in her memory, and no public funeral service is planned.
