On the morning of January 4, 2023 Larry passed away peacefully with his sister Barbara by his side at St. James Hospital in Butte MT. Larry was 75 years old.
Lawrence ‘Larry’ Eugene Taylor was born in Butte on May 8, 1947. He was the firstborn child of Lawrence and Wilma Taylor.
Larry grew up in the Finn Town neighborhood of Butte where he developed his sense of humor as a prankster, according to his sister Laurel. After graduation from Butte High school in 1965, Larry attended Montana Tech before being drafted into military service. Larry served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam war from 1967-1970.
After his time in service Larry worked for the US Forest Service, spending summers with his dog Butchie on fire watch. He loved being in the outdoors either alone with his many dogs over the years or with his girls Jennifer and Julie. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and found humor on occasionally putting a dead fish on the end of someone’s line.
Larry worked for the USPS for more than 30 years where he made many lifelong friends, hunting and fishing buddies. After retirement you could find Larry and his faithful companion Griz on many mountain adventures.
Larry was a quiet, kind man who would do anything to help those he loved often times without them even knowing how much. He made us laugh and love more that we could ever imagine. The light in the world is dimmer now that you are gone.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence and Wilma, brother Donald.
Larry is survived by his daughters, Jennifer(Jason) Jones, Julie Vincent and Steven Scates. Granddaughters, Lilian Jones and Blakley Vincent. Siblings; Laurel(Don) Sundberg, Barbara(Frank) Bennett.
No services are planned per Larry’s wishes.

Larry was a strong, kind and gentle man. Thanksgiving 2022 was my families (Barbara’s daughter, Lyndsey) last moments to enjoy Larry’s love of life. He must have been in so much pain, but didn’t show a lick of it on his exterior. As he always did, carrying a warm smile and a gentleness in his heart, Larry drew pictures with my kids (Barbara’s grand children) sitting around the dining room table. Thank you, Larry, for shining your light upon all of us. Cheers to you!

I first met Larry over 40 years ago when he was our mailman. Little did I know at that time I would end up working with him as a mailman myself. Larry was a quiet, kind, and gentle man. As quiet as he was, he had a mischievous side and was witty and full of fun. There were many good times when Larry was in the room. It was my privilege to work with Larry for those many years. Ramona and I treasure our friendship with him. Love and sympathy to all his family.

The world could use alot more Larry Taylors. I also met Larry when I started working for the USPS. As we all know, he was upbeat and seemed to pass on his gift to make others happy. Always ready to help new carriers. He’s smiling down upon us now. He will be missed. Condolences to the family.
