Judy was such a huge part of my growing up. She was my Sunday school teacher through high school. She taught us through the entire Old and New Testaments. At Christmas time every year, she would read us “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” by Barbara Robinson. I came across this book this past Christmas and had to text Judy right away to reminisce. My three kids thoroughly enjoyed it and we plan to read it ever year now.
I had the privilege of getting to work with Mel and Judy at the Paint Pot until I graduated, spending time with both of them every day after school. Judy pushed me to try new things and entrusted me with more than I imagined I was capable of. I was remembering all the times we had together, and remember getting to go up in Mel’s plane with them one summer where he let me fly. That was a once in a lifetime experience!
Her life was dedicated to serving and being surrounded with fellow Christians. For several years, I was blessed with the opportunity to ride along with Judy on her trips to Oregon Church events. Once, my sister and I even flew with her to an event in Pennsylvania. Judy and Mel accepted my family of 5 into their home when we visited one Fall so we could attend the annual Montana Family Camp, where they both offered much time and effort every year. I was very fortunate to have seen Judy this past March at a women’s event where we roomed, shared meals, and had many laughs together.
Judy may not have had biological children, but she “mothered” many. I cannot wait to see her again!
