Judy Katherine Gustavsen, age 82, of Butte, Montana, passed away surrounded by family at The Springs of Butte in the early morning hours of December 11th, 2022.
Judy was born on September 4th, 1940 to James Fleming and Helen Catherine Reish, in Morrisville, IL. She married Roy Gustavsen on June 23rd, 1962 in South Dakota, and they remained together until his passing in August of 2008.
Throughout her life, she worked at various food service establishments in Butte, retiring from IGA on Excelsior in 2007. Judy loved to garden, and fall was always a busy time of year for canning with Grama Catherine. She and our dad enjoyed camping and traveling with friends, even going to Europe and snowbirding in Arizona. She was an avid bowler and loved having adventures with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend; she will be missed.
Judy is preceded in death by her husband, Roy Gustavsen, brothers Pat and Jack Fleming, and parents, Catherine and James Fleming.
She is survived by her daughters, Johnna Gustavsen of Whitehall, MT, and Joey Gillespie (Jerry) of Colstrip, MT; her brother Mike Fleming (Grace) of Whitehall, MT; grandchildren Jacob Gillespie (Kelly White) of Colstrip, MT, Sydney Gillespie of Fort Worth, TX, and Carlin Gillespie of Grangeville, ID; and great-granddaughter Lily Jo Gillespie of Colstrip, MT.

Gustavsen Family,
We were saddened to hear of Judy’s passing. Judy and Roy were good friends of my Mom and Dad, Millie and Toy Laitinen. Mom bowled with Judy and Roy and Judy traveled to many places with Mom and Dad. Judy was one of the four musketeers ( Judy, Millie, Rhonda and Sharon ) who worked together at the Butte Country Club for many years.
They worked together and played together! We will miss seeing Judy at the Jokers Wild and one or two other casinos.
Judy was a great lady. RIP.

I will never forget when Judy and John visited us in Madrid in the mid-1980’s. I also remember visiting them at their “new” place outside of Whitehall. There were a lot of moments that I still remember with a smile…I hope that the sweet memories bring comfort at this time of deep sadness.
Love, Tamara/Tami Ryan Brody
