Jane Seidensticker Grant, 90, was born in Twin Bridges on September 16, 1935, and died at her home in Butte on January 16, 2026.
She was the daughter of J.C. (Jack) and Veronica (Gorshe) Seidensticker and was raised on the Seidensticker Ranch west of Twin Bridges .After graduating from Twin Bridges High School, Jane attended Carroll College, enrolling in the nursing program. Her clinical training took place in Butte.
Jane married Jim Grant in Twin Bridges, February 22, 1957. He preceded her in death in June of 2020.
2020 was a such a painful year for Jane, she lost her husband and she also lost her most treasured son in law, Patrick Riordan. As the “in town” son in law he assumed all of the chores at 526 with every day dedication and no small amount of humor.
While Jim served in the U.S. Army, Jane was involved with the Mary Munger Blue Eyed Lobby and was so proud of their role in passing the Collective Bargaining Bill giving nurses the right to unionize. The couple lived in Germany while Jim was stationed with the 7th Army Headquarters before returning to Montana to help on the family ranch.
Jane worked as a nurse at Silver Bow General Hospital and later at St. James Community Hospital until her retirement. She was also a founding member of Highlands Hospice, which later branched out into several community organizations, one of which is Trek Hospice; it was this group, in partnership with the daily care provided by daughter Marcia, that enabled her final wish to die at home.
The family is eternally grateful for the medical care received from Dr. Paul Siddoway and Michlyn McCarthy, and for the entire staff at Trek Hospice Care who lovingly cared for her and brought her joy throughout her remaining time.
As always with the people in the Butte Community, there were countless instances of kindness that eased her living alone. There were neighbors shoveling walks, providing emergency fall recoveries and special treatment from her Letter Carriers. She was so fortunate to be “looked after” by the people in her neighborhood.
Her greatest joy was her family. She is survived by her daughters Sheila Grant, Julie Werder (Jeff), Marcia Riordan, and Janie Quilici (Dan), along with grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews and sister-in-law, Raelene Ogrin.
Cremation has taken place under the direction of Axelson’s Funeral Home. Services will be held at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church on July 3, time to be announced. Private interment will follow at Twin Bridges Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to the Grace Fund Foundation of Trek Healthcare and Hospice, 1554 Suite C Harrison Avenue, Butte MT 59701 or to any Twin Bridges community organization.

I met Jane while working for BSB Para transit. I enjoyed our visits and she was my favorite rider. She talked alot about her youth growing up down in TwinBridges on her family ranch. She always had a fun story to tell. Her home was always so decorated with the holidays. I’m the same so we had lots of fun. I loved all of her stain glass. She loved her family and was so proud of them. It was hard on her when we took her to see her husband. I’m so happy now they can be together again. We both cried when I retired and moved away. But I drive down thru her old stomping grounds alot and always think of her. She loved her sister nurses. She was an amazing nurse that all said. So rest in peace and give em hell Jane. I miss our visits. I always looked forward to our visits. Keeping her family in my prayers for comfort and peace. Sincerely Ginny Powers.
