Georgia Ann (Lowney) Peterson passed peacefully at home on October 14th, 2024. Georgia was born in Butte on November 13, 1938, to James and Lorene Lowney. She attended school at St. Lawrence School and Girls Central where she played the saxophone in the band. She loved telling stories about marching down Higgins in Missoula and the good times she had with the band. In 1959, Georgia graduated from Carroll College/St. James School of Nursing with her RN degree and went on to marry the love of her life, William Peterson. Georgia and Bill were married for over 65 years and they raised five children together.
Georgia worked as an RN throughout her career before retiring in 2005. She loved camping, snowmobiling, ceramics, reading, watching MASH, and attending her children’s and grandchildren’s sporting events. She attended all of son, Bill’s and grandson, Josh’s motocross races. Even though she didn’t like racing, she was there for them and supported her husband in his term as referee for the HCMA. Georgia especially loved watching her grandchildren play hockey, traveling many miles to watch them play and cheer them on. She was a mother figure to us and our friends and she could always (almost) tell if we were lying. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and taking them on adventures during the summer. Georgia loved to watch figuring skating and was able to see the U.S. National Figuring Skating Championships in person twice with her daughter, Cyndi. Georgia was a callout lady for the Search & Rescue for many years. Georgia’s kitchen was a large one and it was a place for family and friends to gather on any given day for any reason. It was a place for laughter and great memories were made in that kitchen because she was in it.
Georgia was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Judi; son, Danny; mother and father-in-law, Lill and Russ Peterson; sisters and brother-in-law, June Lowney and Luella, and Ed Rogers; sister-in-law, Donna Rigney; and nephew, Rick Rigney.
Georgia is survived by her husband, Bill; daughters, Connie (Ron) Beck, Cyndi (Mat) Johnson; son, Bill (Mandy) Peterson; grandchildren, Josh (Jenn) Coulombe, Sarah (Trisha) Coulombe, Zach (Chealsea) Coulombe, Allison (Edan) Strekal, Heather Peterson, Cody Peterson, Gerald Peterson; great-grandchildren, Brooklynn and Ryker Coulombe, Danika and Elaina Dennison, Piper Allen and Declan Coulombe; brother-in-law, Dick Rigney; sons-in-law, Mike Coulombe and Jim Summers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
