In Memory Of

Ellen Carmel Nugent, age 86, of Butte, Montana

August 6, 1933 – April 23, 2020

Ellen Carmel Nugent passed away peacefully in her home on April 23, 2020, surrounded by her loving family at the age of 86.

Ellen was born and raised in San Francisco, CA, in 1933 to Bill and Charlotte Ford. Ellen was their only child. She went to Notre Dame Des Victoires Grammar School and High School, graduating in 1951. Ellen attended San Francisco City College and The University of San Francisco. From there, she went on to work at Wells Fargo Bank and Shell Chemical Co.

Ellen met Charles (Chuck) Nugent in 1961 and they were married in 1962 in Reno, NV. They resided in San Francisco until 1970. Ellen fell in love with Butte, MT, where Chuck was born and raised. The couple moved to Butte and raised their family there.

Ellen enjoyed life and being involved in many different activities; including being a Cub Scout Den Mother, CCD Teacher at St. Johns, Montana Speed Skating Association Treasurer and Committee Secretary, and Committee Member of the Butte Sports Hall of Fame.

Ellen was employed at the Butte Civic Center as the Office and Ticket Manager for 34 years until her retirement in 2006. She enjoyed and was especially good at trivia and crossword puzzles. Ellen loved spending time with her family and during her retirement she enjoyed many trips to WA state and summers on Lake Coeur d’Alene visiting her loving children and grandchildren.

Ellen is predeceased by her parents, Charlotte and Bill Ford, and her son, Patrick Edward Nugent.

Ellen will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 58 years, Chuck Nugent, and their children, Katie (Doug) Combs, Spokane, WA, Tim Nugent, Spokane, WA, and Charlotte Nugent, Butte, MT. Ellen will also be fondly remembered by her grandchildren, Kori Douglas, Keli Hughes, Kayla Seccomb, and Ellen Pentecost, and by her great-grandchildren, Archer and Miles Douglas, Lily and Hadleigh Hughes, Deacon Fischer, and Kira Murphy.

Ellen’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to Dr. Siddoway and the entire staff at Senior Solutions Hospice.

As I remember Ellen, it brings back good childhood memories of Katie and I at “sleep overs” on Elm Street. Ellen was kind and welcoming yet always managed to keep us in line despite our silly teenage shenanigans. Katie, I will always have a special place in my heart for your parents Ellen and Chuck, as well as Tim, Charlotte and babysitting little Pat .

Your mom was a great lady. I always saw her at the Civic Center and she was always so friendly. I always asked her about her kids and she loved to brag about all of you. My love and prayers to all of the Nugent family. Laurie Sullivan Rossberg
