Elizabeth “Betty” Jones John was born in Great Falls, Montana on May12, 1919 to Agnes (Murray) and Lewis Jones. She attended school in Anaconda and graduated from Anaconda High School. Betty enlisted in the United States Navy upon graduating. While serving during World War II she was a storekeeper and finished her service repairing American flags. Following her honorable discharge and returning to Anaconda she married Henry John and they began their married life living in the Davidson Building Stagg Apartments. Betty managed the apartments and made many lasting friendships while living there. Betty owned a sewing shop and was known for her fine tailored work and wedding dresses. She also worked for the Driver’s License Bureau.
She was involved in 4-H for many years with her daughters Penny and Sandy. Her sister-in-law Wenonah asked her to help with a special project in 4-H. Betty’s reply was “I’m working on my own special “project” which was her way of saying that she was pregnant with her third child, Denise (Babe). Betty and Henry lived on Elm St. where they continued to raise their family. It was in this house that Betty discovered her carpentry skills. Two of her remarkable projects were adding a patio to the garage and remodeling her kitchen single-handedly. She resided there for many years until moving in with her daughter Denise and her family.
Betty spent the last twelve years of her life under Denise’s loving and devoted care. To know Betty was to love Betty. She had an outgoing and adventurous spirit throughout her life. Her smile and laughter were her hallmark and she would light up any room.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Henry; daughter, Sandy; brothers, Bob, Bus (Norma) Jones; sister, Dollie Huestis and three grandchildren.
