Darrel A. Longee passed away Monday, January 27, 2020, from natural causes. He lived at AWARE’s Mercury Home in Butte, MT.
Proud of his Native American heritage he was a member of the Fort Peck Tribe. Darrel grew up on a ranch on the Fort Peck Reservation, and he often shared many fond memories about his youth.
Darrel had a big CD collection and loved classic rock and roll music. With an ear for music, he also learned to play the guitar on his own. He was a collector of guitars. His most recent purchase was a Dean Koa Thin Body Acoustic Electric. He loved sharing his music and jamming with his peers and caregivers.
Every person who met Darrel liked him. He never had a negative thing to say about anyone. Darrel had a quick, dry sense of humor and loved to laugh. He had a wonderful full-body dragon suit he wore for Halloween and liked showing it off. Darrel also love watching sports and enjoyed shooting hoops with friends’ and caregivers.
Darrel was a spiritual person and prayed often. Friends and caregivers would describe Darrel as a brave person who accepted his challenges and learned to live with them. He never complained and was always appreciative of what others did for him.
Darrel is missed by all that knew him. In memory, his guitars will be hung in the living room of his home.
