Clarence Newhall passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026, in Butte, Montana, surrounded by friends and family.
Clarence was born on December 10, 1933, and went on to live a life full of adventure. He came from a family of dryland farmers and became a proud veteran. He loved hunting, fishing, and abalone diving. He cherished the many trips and memories made while fishing with his beloved brother, Don, who was also the other half of his pinochle playing dynamic duo.
Clarence and his wife, Jean, had a farm in Oregon and especially enjoyed traveling. With his farming roots, he appreciated a good piece of fruit his entire life.
He earned his pilot’s license, was a beekeeper, and became an accomplished woodworker, crafting many treasures. He was an avid rock collector, puzzler, reader, and player of cribbage and cards. He treasured the countless hours spent playing pinochle with his friends at Big Sky on Waterford . A list of Clarence’s favorite songs and musicians could always be found in his shirt pocket!
Clarence was an immensely private person who lived a very full and interesting life. He will be greatly missed, especially by his friends from Big Sky and his family.
Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, Chandler and Celia Newhall; and wife, Jean Newhall. He is survived by his brothers, Chan Newhall, and Don Newhall; his daughters, Suzanne Newhall, and Kathy Wisuri; grandchildren, David Sheeley, Tory Hurley, an Elizabeth Jannett; and four great-grandchildren.
Clarence was laid to rest, next to his wife, Jean, at Riverside Cemetery in Fort Benton, Montana on January 30, 2026.
This handwritten reminder was found neatly tucked away with his hunting and fishing licenses:
“For all life is divided into two parts, anticipation and memory, and if we remember richly, we have lived richly.”
