Charles “Chuck” Gustafson, 83, passed away at the family home on March 27, 2020 from complications from a stroke.
Chuck was born on September 11th, 1936 to Carl Gustafson and Frances McKelvie Gustafson in Anaconda, MT.
Chuck attended school in Anaconda and graduated from Anaconda High in 1954. After graduation he proudly served in the National Guard for several years. He also started working at the smelter, where he eventually became a boilermaker. When the smelter closed in 1980, Chuck worked in Colstrip during the construction of power plants 2,3 and 4. A few years later, he started working at Warm Springs State Hospital to be closer to his home and his family. He retired in the late 1990’s, so he could enjoy his other pastimes. Chuck’s passion was snowmobiling and he was a charter member of the Anaconda Snowmobile Club. He also enjoyed weekly ATV rides with his friends, remarking that he couldn’t believe he ever had time to work. He was also an avid reader and he especially enjoyed local and western history.
In 1970 Chuck married Judy Pearson at St. Timothy’s Chapel at Georgetown Lake. In May of this year, they would have celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. They were blessed with three children early in their marriage.
Chuck is survived by his wife Judy Gustafson , sons David Gustafson and Robert Gustafson, of Anaconda, and daughter Jennifer Gustafson (Scott Thielmann) of Conrad. Chuck is also survived by his little sister Jean (Cliff) Kruse of Helena. He also had three granddaughters of whom he was exceptionally proud of, Kaitlyn Carleton, Hannah Gustafson and Kamryn Gustafson.
