Mrs. Cecilia L. Downey passed away on Wednesday at the age of 95 at The Springs of Butte.
Cecilia was born to George and Elizabeth (Maerschbecker) Bauer on January 12, 1928, and grew up on the family farm at Hysham, MT. After graduating from Hysham High School, she met her husband-to-be, Harry, while working in Helena, MT. They were married at St. Ann’s Church in Butte in 1947, and had lived in Butte since then. Cecilia worked for Graybar and then for the Anaconda Co., retiring from the Anaconda Co. when it closed.
Cecilia was a passionate bridge player; she also enjoyed playing golf, embroidery, and most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family.
Cecilia is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Jerry and Kathy Downey; her daughter and son-in-law Jan and Elton Chorney; and her granddaughters Collette Chorney and Maureen Chorney, all of Butte. She is also survived by her brother Mathew Bauer of Forsyth, MT, John Bauer of Albuquerque, NM, and her sister Yvonne (Sis) Olson of Seattle, WA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband Harry; their three infant sons Daniel, David, and Dennis; her parents, her brothers Frank, George, and James Bauer; and her sisters Bernadine Bauer and Elizabeth Bauer.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations for SCL Health Foundation or Our Lady of the Rockies.
