Thomas Englert was a good friend and aid of Burly’s at MSP. He was saddened at Burly’s sudden passing. Burly didn’t like much of the food on the daily menu, so Thomas would share some of his food that Burly would eat. Thomas was also looking forward to sharing some Christmas goodies with Burly. He will miss his friend.

R.I.P Burly ( A.K.A Dad) wish I could share a memory but don’t have any . In fact I don’t have a single picture of you and I together .. You weren’t in my life but yet I’m reminded of you every day. I have no love nor hate for you and hope you made peace with God .
Be Cool

I spent time with Burly and will say that his commentary and guidance during my sentence were a part of my making some serious choices during my incarceration. I’ve never once set foot in a cell or had a pair of steel bracelets fastened to my wrists in the 20+ years since completing my sentence.
I’ve since gone on to what Burly described as “a lame, but rewarding life”, that came about from a moment of reflection sparked by a conversation with a hard-core convict.
I’m not sure what peace he made with God, or if that is even a possibility in reflection of his crimes, but he helped me recognize the error of my ways and how horrible the path before me was if I didn’t change my mindset.
Rest easy brother.
