Terald “Terry” D. Hanekan passed away June 22, 2024, in Butte, Montana. He was born on November 16, 1947 in Butte, Montana to Terald Hanekan and Mary Gittens Hanekan. He attended Longfellow Grade School and graduated from Butte High in 1966. He later married Rochelle (Shellie) Ackerschott on October 25, 1966. They were together 59 years and married for 58.
Terald started his work career in Jr. High as a lot boy for Knievel Imports and graduated from Western Tech Automotive School in Denver. He then enlisted in the Air Force as a jet mechanic from 1968 to 1972. Upon returning he went to work for Knievel Imports. He then opened his own repair shop T & T Auto Repair, which he owned and operated for 30 years. Terald was an avid bowler, hunter, fisherman and potter. He was a 50-year member of The Butte Elks and was past exalted Ruler and District Deputy of The Grand Lodge. Terald and Shellie were fortunate to spend winter retirement in Apache Junction, Arizona.
Terald is preceded in death by his parents, Terald and Mary Hanekan, and his grandparents, Ole and Lena Hanekan, and George and Alice Gittens.
Terald is survived by his wife, Shellie; daughters, Tara Hanekan of Coeur D’ Alene, Idaho and Rhonda (Dale) Field of Clancy, Montana; granddaughter, Baylee (Jeremiah) Bodecker of Coeur D’ Alene; Preston Field of Moscow, Idaho; Colin Field of Clancy, Montana; and brother, Ron Hanekan of Sheridan, Montana.
Cremation has taken place. Services will be held at a later date.
